Shopping is now officially easier than ever before!
That’s right; the long-awaited Instagram Shopping feature has (finally!) arrived in Australia for good which means purchases are now only a click away. We admit, it does feel like the feature has been a long time coming, but Instagram has made the wait worth it. The update allows ‘click-of-a-button’ shopping for users and behind-the-scenes shopping metrics for businesses, making the feature a win for everyone.
Inspiration is part and parcel of the Instagram experience, and it has been from the beginning. The platform now boasts over 600M users all of which want to explore and find new things they love. In fact, 80% of users follow at least one business account – making them a match made in heaven! The feature launched in the US last year and is now rolling out internationally with concurrent launches in Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.
Of course, with everything on Instagram, the shopping feature is incredibly easy to use. If you hop on to Myer’s Instagram (@Myer), for example, you’ll see little shopping bags on some of the photos; this indicates that there are products you can purchase in the photo. If you tap the picture a tag with a short product name and price will appear on the photo. Tap again, and you’ll be taken to a page with product details and a button saying ‘shop now’. One more click and you’re on the brand’s website with the product in front of your eager eyes ready to be added to cart.
That’s right- it’s that easy! You no longer have to sift through the clunky process of closing Instagram and to open another browser to search for the product- it’s all done for you.
P.S if you haven’t seen the shopping bags yet, you may want to update the app!

Metrics and insights
Here at Ronin, we love having the ability to track pretty much all of our digital marketing efforts. And the great news is Instagram has added tracking capability to the shopping feature as well. So once you’re all set up and posting with the Instagram Shopping feature, you will be able to track the click-through data on posts with products tagged in them.
Instagram has partnered with Country Road, Myer and PepperMayo to test the Beta version of the feature. But you’ll also see it rolled out on business accounts which choose to use it.
